CKUA Radio Network

This display, constructed by her son Malcolm, was part of Barbara's memorial. Note on the left her award for volunteer service to CKUA.

The following text was part of a display at Barbara's memorial:

Barbara greatly enjoyed music, and the radio was almost always on when she was around. When CKUA was nearly shut down in 1997, she became involved as a volunteer, and spent many hours helping during CKUA's seasonal fund-raisers. At one particular fund raiser, John Worthington introduced himself to her as the "old disc-jockey". Being the astute listener she was, she gently corrected him, as he always introduces himself on the air as the "old-disc jockey".

This radio normally sits in the kitchen, tuned either to CBC or CKUA as she worked and relaxed. We have requested songs on two of her favourite programs, Voices in Jazz hosted by Dianne Donovan, and The Old-Disc Jockey hosted by John Worthington.
